Samsung CEO Lee's death triggered a heart attack

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. announced with deep sorrow the sudden passing of its co-chief executive officer Han Jong-Hee who died on March 25, 2025, at the age of 63 due to a heart attack

Han Jong-Hee dedicated nearly four decades to Samsung, joining the company in 1988. Throughout his tenure, he played a pivotal role in transforming Samsung's television division into a global leader, solidifying the company's position as the world's top TV manufacturer. In 2022, Han was appointed co-vice chairman and CEO, overseeing the consumer electronics and mobile devices divisions

Under Han's leadership, Samsung faced significant challenges, including increased competition in the semiconductor market and shifts in smartphone sales rankings. Notably, the company ceded its leading position in smartphone sales to Apple in 2024 and encountered stiff competition from SK Hynix in supplying memory for AI chips. These developments contributed to a 22% decline in Samsung's stock over the past year, contrasting with gains by its competitors

In response to Han's untimely passing, Jun Young Hyun, who was recently appointed as co-CEO and has been leading Samsung's semiconductor division, will assume the role of sole CEO. This leadership transition occurs at a critical juncture as Samsung endeavors to address ongoing market challenges and revitalize its strategic direction

Han Jong-Hee is survived by his wife and three children. His contributions to Samsung and the broader technology industry have left an indelible mark, and he will be remembered for his dedication and leadership
